Health & Well-being in Intelligent Environments

We spend majority of our time in indoor environments, and indoor environmental quality directly impacts our well-being. A sense of well-being in indoor environments is linked to productivity, performance, employee recruitment and retention, and it also helps reduce health risks, absenteeism, as well as associated costs. Poorly designed or controlled indoor environments are linked to some of the greatest public health concerns, such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, asthma, and depression, respiratory distress, discomfort, stress, and anxiety. At CENTIENTS, we investigate how intelligent environments improve or degrade health & wellbeing and enhance or detract from sense of control, meaning, attention to tasks, mood, and empowerment. Additionally, we focus on what health, psychological and behavioral effects the users experience as a result of using, living and working in the intelligent environments.
